Yoga retreats in Crete
Whether you’re joining a retreat or bringing your own group, everything begins here.
We also host guest teachers throughout the year, alongside our regular programme.
Yoga retreats in Southern Crete
At YogaOnCrete, the practice is the heart of our home. It is a bridge between your inner world and the vibrant life of the island.
Our journeys are guided by a diverse collective of experienced teachers, each bringing their unique experience to the retreat. As you move with awareness and in tune with your breath, the noise of the outside world fades, allowing you to meet yourself again. In the stillness of a pose or the rhythm of a sequence, you learn to listen to your body’s wisdom and rediscover the quiet centre that is your natural state.
This inner balance naturally opens your heart to those around you. In the shared silence, the breath becomes a thread that weaves individual paths into a shared tapestry of connection, appreciation, and joy.
This makes Southern Crete one of the most sought-after locations for a yoga retreat in Greece.

20 years of yoga retreats in Crete
Over the past 20 years, YogaOnCrete has welcomed over 1,100 guests from around the world.
This short film, which was made to celebrate our 10-year anniversary in 2016, offers a glimpse into the space, the people, and the rhythm of retreat life here.
The role of yoga in our retreats
At the heart of yoga is a simple idea: by quieting the mind and returning to clarity, we connect with our essence which is peaceful and joyful, and from that centre can live with gratitude for the gift that life truly is. Riding the ups and downs that inevitably come our way thus becomes a practice in acceptance, grace, and wisdom.
According to the Indian sage Patanjali in Yoga Sutra 1.2, yogash chita vritti nirodha. In this classical text, yoga is defined as the cessation of the mind’s fluctuations, a state beyond mental fragmentation, whereby the practitioner feels whole and peaceful. The practice that cultivates this state is yoga.
The style and approach to yoga taught will vary according to the teachers and programme for each course, so please check our yoga retreat calendar before you book.

Iyengar yoga retreats
Our Iyengar yoga retreats are based on a method rooted in precision, clarity, and deep awareness.
Iyengar Yoga, developed through the pioneering work of B.K.S. Iyengar, is rooted in precision, clarity, attention to detail and alignment. It is a method that brings intelligence to movement and awareness to stillness.
In each class, the focus rests on the relationship between body and mind — how muscular action, stability, and sensitivity create the conditions for concentration. The use of props supports practitioners of all levels, allowing each student to explore the postures safely and with understanding rather than force.
Breath awareness accompanies every asana, guiding the practitioner inward. Through consistent practice, physical strength and flexibility are balanced with patience, steadiness, and mental clarity. What begins as alignment of the body gradually becomes alignment of attention.
At Yoga On Crete, Iyengar yoga is not only a technique, but a pathway toward integration — where discipline softens into insight, and effort reveals ease. The teaching is guided by our deep respect for the Iyengar yoga tradition, while we remain open to scientific and experiential advances that keep the practice alive and offer tools for deepening students’ understanding. We prioritise the student’s unique body and experience over rigid rules. The teaching is precise yet compassionate and adaptive, creating a safe environment for every individual.
This is the approach that shapes most retreats at YogaOnCrete.

“In order to feel at home inside oneself, one has to feel at home within their surroundings. Being at the house, that homely feel and a sense of being looked after is a big part of the experience here.”
Kathryn, UK, 2019 retreat participant
