About YogaOnCrete
It all began with Eugenia’s desire to share her two loves: yoga as a precious practice of coming home to oneself and the embodied experience of being held by this ancient, wise land.
YogaOnCrete is more than just a place on a map in Southern Crete — it is a living story that we write together with every guest who for 20 years has trusted us for a retreat.
Under the guidance of Eugenia and our dedicated team, here in Sfakia we have created a space where values are not just words, rather a daily practice. We believe that authentic expression of one’s true self is a political act of liberation, and that a real connection with another human being begins with open hearts and our shared passion for a life lived with care and awareness.

A house with a soul
The imposing farmhouse in Sfakia feels as if it has been in our family for generations, as Eugenia spent her childhood holidays in this village climbing up the steep hills and jumping off the rocks at the local Vrissi beach. Her interior designer parents bought the house as a ruin in the mid 1980s and renovated it into a family holiday home with profound respect for the traditional architecture and style. Every stone in these walls carries the history of generations past. When we decided to create Yoga on Crete in 2006, our deepest intention was to honor this heritage. We didn’t want to build a resort; we wanted to bring new life to our family holiday home, ensuring it kept its welcoming spirit, its ruggedness, and the calm energy of homecoming that has accumulated here over the decades.
The area of Chora Sfakion
Southern Crete offers something rare: space, silence and raw natural beauty; the luxury of simplicity.
YogaOnCrete is based in Sfakia, one of the least developed regions of the island. Surrounded by the White Mountains and overlooking the Libyan Sea, it provides an ideal setting for a yoga retreat in Greece.
Here you will find quiet beaches without crowds, crystal clear waters, clear night skies, traditional Cretan villages connected by coastal paths, and a slower pace of life.
This environment is not an add-on — it is an essential part of the retreat experience. Yoga for us is not an isolated activity — it is a return to the simplicity and honesty of our surroundings.
Practice led by intention
As the founder and lead teacher, Eugenia brings over 20 years of experience to the yoga mat, but her primary role is to safeguard this home’s authenticity and welcoming atmosphere. Her dream was to create a space free from commercial haste, where everyone — regardless of their level — feels seen and safe. She personally selects every teacher who joins our team to ensure their message is grounded and sincere.
We remain dedicated to small groups because it is the only way to cultivate what we value most: authentic connection and deep presence.

Living with care
At YogaOnCrete, we aim to live one of the core principles of yoga — connectedness — in our relationship with the natural environment and with one another.
Caring for this place is not an extra effort, but part of everyday life. Recycling, composting, mindful use of water and energy, and choosing environmentally friendly cleaning and body care products are among our regular practices. We cultivate plants organically and respect the natural life that surrounds us, including the animals who share our garden.
We believe that damaging the environment would stand in direct opposition to the work we do here — creating space for presence, authenticity, and inner clarity. The unspoilt beauty of Sfakia offers both inspiration and responsibility.
We invite everyone who stays with us to join this shared effort — to live gently, consciously, and in harmony with the land, the community, and themselves.
