Iyengar Yoga Workshop with Antonella
Join us at YogaOnCrete and experience lightness of body and spirit and the joy of honouring and nurturing your needs through the practice of Iyengar yoga and meditation, daily encounters with the cool, turquoise Mediterranean waters at quiet beaches, idyllic unspoilt surroundings, and wholesome, vegetarian, local food, excursions, a warm and welcoming group of people and much more! No previous experience in yoga is required for participation in the course, while more experienced students will discover tools for deepening their practice!

The week begins with an introductory class at 6.00 p.m. on the day of arrival, and the day's programme closes with dinner. All other days begin at 8.00 a.m. with a 1.5 hour Iyengar yoga class.
After breakfast guests are free to relax and enjoy the beach and sunshine, receive a massage treatment, or explore the village and region. The second shorter (1 hour) Iyengar yoga session and 30 minute meditation in the late afternoon is followed by dinner.
The fourth day of the week is a rest day from classes; an optional excursion can be arranged, including a hike through the magnificent Aradaina gorge (approx. €25 depending on number of participants going). All breakasts and 5 dinners are offered at the house, while on two of the nights guests are free to dine out in the village restaurants (not included in the course cost; approx. €15 for a full meal including drinks). Individual excursions (e.g., hikes, boat trips) can also be arranged during the week. On the last day of each week, departure can be arranged after morning class and breakfast.
The number of guests is limited to 14, to create a warm and friendly atmosphere, and to ascertain that individual attention is given in the classes.
The classes comprise of a series of asanas (physical postures), usually sustained for some time so that the body and its necessary actions can be observed within the posture, pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditative techniques (sitting in silence, concentration techniques), through which the development of awareness of the body and mind in the present moment and deep relaxation are practiced.
Iyengar yoga was developed through the pioneering work of B.K.S. Iyengar, who freed the classical yoga postures (asanas) from their Indian mystique and with the use of props made them suitable for Westerners, who want to have a clear understanding of what happens in a yoga posture. A typical Iyengar yoga class focuses on precision of movement, correct alignment, and the study of the ‘muscle and mind’ actions and resistance necessary to enter a state of concentration. Breathing awareness is emphasized in every asana in order to deepen the experience. Through consistent practice the student overcomes physical and mental/emotional limits and develops a deep awareness of the body, power, control, patience and physical and mental harmony.
Antonella CusimanoAntonella is a Junior Intermediate Level I certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at Iyengar Yoga Vereniging Nederland and associated with BIYAB (Belgium Iyengar Yoga Association).
She has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 2004 at public dance institutions such as P.A.R.T.S.(Performing Arts Research and Training Studios Brussels) and KBA (Royal School of Dance Antwerpen) as well as in private yoga studios, cultural institutions and private companies.
Graduated in Physical Education - Science Motorie at I.S.E.F. Lombardia - in Italy, she has worked as professional contemporary dancer / performer for several years and, as contemporary dance teacher, for many years before teaching yoga.
She is certified as well in Traditional Thai Massage at 'Wat Pho' in Bangkok and in Energy Healing lev I. She treated many people with Thai Massage for about 6 years. Interested in other forms of spiritual practices and shamanism, she followed Tibetan Buddhist Meditation retreats at 'Yeunten Ling Center' in Huy Belgium and ten days Vipassana Meditation retreat at Northern California 'Vipassana Center Dhamma Manda' San Francisco.
Iyengar Yoga practitioner since 2000, she studied with several senior teachers and keeps deepening her knowledge following every year workshops and conventions. In 2019 with Christian Pisano, Carrie Owerko's dynamic approach and Firooza Ali Razvi. In India she followed Rajiv and Swati Chianchiani's teachings at 'Yog-Ganga Center for Yoga Studies' and attended classes at RIMYI (Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute) in Pune, India. She loves to help yoga practitioners to find their own expression and freedom in the limited space of an asana, in order to experience the healing effect of Iyengar yoga method, helping with personal verbal and hands on adjustments if necessary.
Continuing her personal artistic practice (drawing), she developed a drawing method, that she teaches in workshops to support free expression in drawing. She is interested in exploring the peaceful state of mind that yoga and meditation bring allowing the creative state of mind to emerge and express itself. She teaches her drawing technique in workshops at West Dean College (UK) and Belgium.
During YogaOnCrete she will offer one afternoon session to the participants interested in exploring guided drawing for free expression!
